What is inclusive language and why is it important in our communications?
This session, organised by the Europeana Network Association Communicators Community and led by me and Alice Orrù, aimed to support diversity and inclusion in our sector by offering an exploration of inclusive language and highlighting initiatives to be of inspiration for others.
This talk has explored what ‘Inclusive Language’ is, questioning the term itself; should we discuss other possibilities like ‘broad Language’ or ‘coexistence of differences’? The session has approached this question with a focus on gender, analysing how the Italian language approaches pronouns and the formation of the feminine.
We have highlighted and assessed approaches under experimentation in Italy, discuss what is happening in other languages, and invited the audience to share their own thoughts and experience.
